“ "Blót and bloody rituals: Its personal and communal meanings in Pre-Christian Nordic context"”

"Blót" as ritual is a fascinating, yet somewhat enigmatic concept that appears within and outside Old Icelandic literature. Such accounts present an interesting variety of how blót as ritual served different purposes. In my presentation, I will discuss different types of blót, discuss what the archaeological data suggest us, and discuss the various personal and communal meanings which blót might had in the past.
